Chelsea’s Players from the Dutch Club Before Ziyech

Chelsea successfully got a new face for the next season; the midfielder, Hakim Ziyech. Ziyech, the Morocco National Team player will join the club starting from the next season. Chelsea and Ajax Amsterdam agreed to the nominal €40 million to transfer Ziyech to the club. However, the number can rise up to €44 million, depending on the performance of Hakim Ziyech in the Stamford Bridge. In the beginning, Chelsea wished for the sign of the 26 years old player in the transfer market in January 2020. Unfortunately, the effort of the blue London team to get Hakim Ziyech could not be realized. Ajax refused to let the player go in this season. It is because de Godenzonen still needs Hakim Ziyech to compete for the 2019-2020 Dutch Eredivisie championship trophy.

Hakim Ziyech is Chelsea’s tenth recruitment from the Dutch Eredivisie club. Nine players before Ziyech have different histories. Here are the players whom Chelsea recruited before Ziyech. From the ones with great performances until the ones who failed to shine.

Arjen Robben

Arjen Robben joined Chelsea from PSV Eindhoven in 2004. The Blues spent around 16 million Pound Sterling to recruit Arjen Robben from PSV. The injury factor made Robben have to wait until November to make a debut. Fortunately, he contributed a great performance by scoring his first goal when competing against CSKA Moscow in the Champions League. The ex-player of Dutch National Team also got an award as the PFA Player of The Month in November 2004. In his first last season in Chelsea, Arjen Robben scored 7 goals and 9 assists from 18 competitions. He was also nominated young player of the season.

Ken Monkou

The next player recruited by Chelsea before Hakim Ziyech is Ken Monkou. Ken Monkou joined Chelsea in 1988 from Feyenoord. Then, he became one of the best defenders of The Blues and Premier League. He came and helped the club win the Second Division title. Ken Monkou managed to perform in 54 competitions with Chelsea.

Salomon Kalou

Salomon Kalou arrived at Stamford Bridge on May 30th, 2006. He came in the first rank among the most productive scorers in Feyenoord. He played in 254 competitions and managed to score 60 goals and 44 assists for 6 seasons with Chelsea. Salomon Kalou also managed to win 8 trophies in The Blues, including one Champions League trophy and one Premier League trophy.

Mario Melchiot

Mario Melchiot played impressively with Ajax Amsterdam. Chelsea moved quickly to get his signing in summer 1999 with a status of free transfer. Even though he got injured quite often in the beginning of the season, he became the main right defender for the next 4 years. Mario Melchiot managed to get rid of Christian Panucci and Albert Ferrer. Melchiot then left for Birmingham in 2004.

Ed de Goey

The next is Ed de Goey. Ed de Goey was a helpful goalkeeper for Chelsea. For 6 seasons playing with Chelsea, he set a club record for most appearances and a clean sheet for one season in 1999-2000. Unfortunately, he lost his place after Carlo Cudicini came. Ed de Goey managed to perform only in 3 leagues within 3 years before he joined Stoke City in 2003.

Jesper Gronkjaer

Jesper Gronkjaer was considered a hero by Chelsea’s fans after scoring a goal that was known as a one billion pound sterling goal when he competed against Liverpool. The goal made Chelsea qualified for the Champions League. The goal also made Roman Abramovich have the intention to buy the club. Besides the goal, Jesper Gronkjaer played inconsistently in Chelsea. From 119 matches, he scored only 11 goals and 14 assists.

Marco van Ginkel

Marco van Ginkel came from Vitesse in 2013 with the title of successor to Frank Lampard. However, the great beginning in the Blue London Team was ruined because he got injured. The incident forced him to be absent for one season. Once Ginkel had recovered, his performance unfortunately decreased. He was loaned to AC Milan, PSV, and Stoke City. When his career started to shine, he needed to face a surgery once again due to problems in his knee.

Chelsea Officials to Ban Supporters after Manchester United Beats Chelsea

Following the match day 26 of 38 in the Premier League Manchester United beats Chelsea at Stamford Bridge. It has been a great game for the Red Devils following its last draw and 2 previous defeats just before heading to Stamford Bridge. Unfortunately there is more to talk about than just the match. Within the match there has been a large group of Manchester United supporters made intolerable homophobic chants. In a professional sport game like this one football match, such a thing is and will always be wrong. That is pretty much the same as racism that was at large back then.

In response to that matter, officials of Chelsea have issued a statement that such a thing will not be tolerated especially at Stamford Bridge. There will be a ban issued by Chelsea officials for that respective group of supporters. The ban will prevent them from attending matches at Stamford Bridge in the future. Unacceptable behavior should always be punished properly in the purpose of preventing such things from happening again in the future. Everyone within the stadium has the same right to get comfortable in enjoying the match without anything that might disturb the activity. It really is a shame for football supporters to act that way.

The loud homophobic chants made by the supporters of Manchester United lead to some supporters to be ejected in the middle of the match. Some of the supporters were even prevented from actually entering the stadium to watch the match. Thus it has been within the right way that officials of Chelsea issue a ban for those supporters. Chelsea officials have contacted Manchester United as well regarding this matter. Soon afterwards Manchester United officials stated that the ban is much needed to deal with such a thing. It is never right to support a football team by doing that particularly embarrassing thing. The loyalty of the supporters is much appreciated that could lead to the fact that Manchester United beats Chelsea. Yet, such a thing should never happen at all in the first place.

This band for the supporters of Manchester United has nothing to do with the game at all. It is strictly a punishment for the irresponsible supporters. The match saw Anthony Martial and Harry Maguire scored a goal each for the Red Devils. Chelsea got the 68% possession of the ball but could not really maximize it to score even just a goal. Even the shots made by United were just 9 times compared to 17 times by Chelsea. Yet the on target shots of United were 3 compared to 1 from Chelsea.

The match itself is an important one for both teams to help secure their respective spot within the league standings. Chelsea currently sits on the fourth place within the Premier League standings. There are just 3 points between Chelsea and Manchester United after the last match. In between them there are Spurs and Sheffield United. Chelsea has even more terrible records for the last five matches compared to United. Chelsea got two defeats, two draws and only one win within the last five matches. That is just as predicted by Frank Lampard following the failure of the club to secure any signings during the winter transfer window in January.

Unfortunately things could get even worse for Chelsea with the upcoming fixture against Spurs. Currently Spurs is in fifth place right below Chelsea on the standings with just a point gap. Chelsea should back to its winning trend to ensure its fourth spot in the standings. On the other hand Manchester United beats Chelsea could be the start of a winning trend within the Red Devils that is much awaited and needed since long ago.
